Vieux Farka Touré

Vieux Farka Touré (born 1981) is a Malian guitarist and singer, often called “The Jimi Hendrix of the Sahara.” He is the son of legendary Malian musician Ali Farka Touré. Although his father initially encouraged him to join the military, Vieux chose to follow a musical path instead.

His music blends traditional Malian styles with blues, rock, and contemporary influences. His self-titled debut album appeared in 2007, followed by several acclaimed releases and collaborations with artists like Dave Matthews and Khruangbin.

Renowned for his virtuosic guitar technique and high-energy live performances, Vieux Farka Touré has built an international reputation. Beyond his artistry, he serves as a cultural ambassador for Mali and participates in charitable projects supporting his community.
