The First Modern Guitar in History

In the early 19th century, the guitar looked very close to a six-string instrument but was smaller in size. In the mid-1800s, Antonio de Torres Jurado, a Spanish musician and luthier, began creating the guitar style that would give rise to all modern guitars. Although in modern times he doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves, he is in many ways a grandfather figure in guitar history.

With a wider body, increased waist arch, thinned belly, and machine heads that replaced wooden tuning pegs, his creations became very famous thanks to the innovative shape of the fan bracing and body design, which gave classical guitars a distinct sound and thick, heavy sound.
