Brian May, the son of an electronics repairman and musician, inherited his father’s talent for soldering and music. He pursued his interest in technology and music, earning a degree in Physics while making guitars in his spare time. His homemade guitar became his trademark in every performance. May formed his first band, 1984, while still in school and gigged around London, opening for legendary artists like Jimmi Hendrix and Pink Floyd.
In college, he formed a hard rock trio called Smile with Roger Taylor. The band later added Freddie Mercury on vocals and changed their name to Queen. With the addition of bassist John Deacon, the band signed with EMI and released their debut album in 1973, featuring Mercury’s operatic vocals and May’s cool riffs. Queen continued to experiment and released successful albums like “A Night at the Opera” and “News of the World.” After Mercury’s death, Queen disbanded but performed on special occasions. May pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as “Back to the Light” and “Another World.”
