Carlos Santana recalled how Jimi Hendrix complimented his “choice of notes”, adding how he knew he made it when musicians of that caliber began openly praising his work.

At the mature age of 76, Carlos Santana is a living legend who’s done it all. Having played at Woodstock even before his debut album came out, the guitarist, born and raised in Mexico, went on to enjoy one of the most accomplished careers in music history. Given that he hailed from the extravagantly diverse ’60s milieu of rock guitar, Santana, like many of his peers, naturally (and frequently) cited Hendrix as a major influence. However, unlike most of them, Santana actually had his playing praised by his idol.

In a new interview with Forbes, conducted in light of the recently released documentary documentary “Carlos”, the guitarist was asked if there were any moments that gave him confidence early in his career.
