Sandwash – Indie Rock Pioneers of the UAE

Sandwash is one of the UAE’s earliest and most influential indie rock bands, celebrated for their energy, melodic songwriting, and role in shaping the Middle Eastern underground music scene. Formed in Dubai in the early 2000s, the band mixes alternative rock, punk, and pop into a raw and honest sound.

Fronted by Mike Fillon, Sandwash quickly gained recognition through DIY shows, festivals, and strong community presence long before the UAE had an established indie scene. Their 2010 debut album Master Blaster Hole earned praise for its catchy hooks and unfiltered production, with songs like Alabaster and Firefly becoming cult favorites.

Beyond their music, Sandwash’s DIY spirit inspired a new wave of Gulf-based bands, laying the foundation for indie rock in the region. Known for fun, high-energy performances, they remain a symbol of independence and creativity in the UAE’s growing music culture.
