Robbie Krieger: The Doors’ Distinctive Guitarist

Robbie Krieger

Robbie Krieger (born 1946, USA) was the guitarist for The Doors and one of the most original players of the 1960s. Mostly self-taught, he blended flamenco, jazz, and blues into his psychedelic rock style. His fingerstyle playing shaped hits like “Light My Fire,” “Love Me Two Times,” and “Touch Me.”

Krieger’s sound complemented Jim Morrison’s lyrics and Ray Manzarek’s organ, giving The Doors their unique identity. After Morrison’s death, Krieger continued making music with surviving members and also pursued solo projects.

He later explored jazz-influenced works, showing his depth as a guitarist. Krieger remains celebrated for riffs that continue to inspire and for his originality during rock’s golden era.
