Ritchie Blackmore (born 1945, England) is a legendary rock guitarist best known for his work with Deep Purple and as founder of Rainbow. His aggressive riffs, shaped by classical influences, helped define hard rock and heavy metal in the 1970s.

His most famous riff, “Smoke on the Water,” remains one of the most iconic in rock history. With Rainbow, Blackmore expanded into melodic and symphonic styles that influenced power metal. Later, he surprised fans by forming Blackmore’s Night, a project mixing folk, Renaissance, and rock.

Blackmore’s mastery of rhythm and lead guitar, along with his charismatic stage presence, made him a central figure in rock. His innovative style continues to inspire guitarists worldwide.
