This metal cone helps the guitar resonate and project the sound being played. The result is a very loud and clear sound.

Resonators are commonly used in bluegrass, country, Hawaiian, blues and jazz music. There are different models with different types of diaphragms that are better suited for different styles of music. Many resonator guitarists use slides, but you can play a resonator like a regular guitar.
