What Is The History of The Guitar?

The guitar is a type of musical instrument that is played by plucking either played solo guitar, or in the form of an ensemble.
The word Guitar or guitar in English, was originally taken from the name of an ancient plucked musical instrument in the Persian region in 1500 BC known as citra or sehtar. This instrument then developed into a variety of ancient guitar models known by the general term tambour in 300 BC.
Persian drums were developed by the Greeks and six centuries later by the Romans (Bellow, 1970: 54-55). In 496 AD this instrument was brought by the Romans to Spain and transformed into (1) Guitarra Morrisa which functions as a melody carrier and (2) Guitarra Latina to play chords. Three centuries later the Arabs brought a kind of gambus guitar called Al Ud to Spain three centuries later. (Summerfild, 1982:12).
Based on the construction of the Arab Al Ud and the two Roman guitar models, the Spanish then made their own instrument called the Vihuela. As a result, the Vihuela became popular in Spain while its predecessors were largely abandoned. Nevertheless, al ud was brought by people to western European countries that rivaled the popularity of the vihuela in Spain.
In Europe the al ud was well received and developed into various models of European lute until around the end of the 17th century.
Meanwhile the Vhihuela continued to evolve into various guitars over the centuries until it finally became the classical guitar used today.
