For some time now, Epiphone has been bringing some pricier new models to the market. Sure, there’s also the inflation, but the otherwise “cost-friendly” Gibson subsidiary brand has now gone way past the $1,000 mark with their new Joe Bonamassa 1963 SG Custom.
The new guitar is a copy of Bonamassa’s 1963 Gibson SG Custom and comes with some of the same features. There’s the triple-humbucker formation, as well as its Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, bringing some serious vintage vibes. And just like Joe’s old ’63 SG Custom, this one also has a gorgeous finish. However, this one is referred to as the Dark Wine Red finish as compared to the original’s Dark Cherry Red, although these are both pretty similar.
The hardware is all gold, which goes hand-in-hand with the golden tops of pot caps, the pickup covers, and the writing on the pickup selector switch cover. There’s also a white pickguard and the white vibrato arm plastic cover. They’ve obviously paid a lot of attention to detail, which is not a surprise for Epiphone Custom models.
