The first type of guitar is the classical guitar. Classical guitars are also known as nylon string acoustic guitars (Nylon String Acoustic) because they use nylon strings. With this type of acoustic guitar, you don’t need to plug it in using electricity to play it.The guitar on the right in the photo above is a ‘steel string acoustic’. You can see that all six strings are made of metal. Four strings are wrapped around the wire and the last two strings are one wire. The guitar on the left is a classical guitar. Three of the strings are clear nylon, while the other three are nylon wrapped in wire.

The six strings on a classical guitar are made of nylon, but the bottom three strings are wrapped with wire, so that only three strings appear to be made of nylon. This type of guitar is the main choice for playing classical music. Outside of classical music, the classical guitar is also used in various musical styles including folk, Flamenco, pop, jazz.

Classical guitars produce a soft tone because of their nylon strings. You can pluck the strings harder to produce a louder tone, but the overall tone will still sound soft compared to other types of guitars.
