Carlos Santana’s been on stage for years and years now. When you’re as experienced and well-versed in stagecraft as he is, you’re bound to understand the fleeting nature of fame. Naturally, the support of other relevant and “hot” musicians goes a long way in keeping your own image afloat in shifting tides. Santana’s proven to be very aware of this method, having already collaborated with artists such as Eros Ramazzotti, Shakira, Steven Tyler, and others.
In a recent interview with Reuters centered on the upcoming release of his biographical documentary “Carlos: The Santana Journey”, the guitarist mentioned some of the artists he’d like to work with in the future: “Well, definitely Taylor Swift, Adele, Beyonce, Metallica, AC/DC, U2. Of course, Eric Clapton. I’d like to enter into the music of the youngsters, you know? Whether it’s rap like Jay-Z. I wanna stay relevant – I don’t wanna be a ghost in a jukebox.”
While most (if not all) of the names make a ton of sense, Taylor Swift and Metallica are particularly interesting. Swift’s already worked with rock artists in the past, producing some quality songs with Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams and Fall Out Boy. As for Metallica, the chances of a collab happening are pretty high, if Kirk Hammett’s previous appearance on Santana’s “Blessings and Miracles” album is anything to go by, and a clash of sounds between the titans would likely result in a song for the ages.
