Bernard Butler (born May 1, 1970) is an English guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. He first gained fame as the guitarist and co-songwriter of Suede, one of the defining bands of the 1990s Britpop movement.
Bernard Butler contributed to Suede’s debut Suede (1993) and Dog Man Star (1994) before leaving the band. He later formed the duo McAlmont & Butler, producing hits like Yes. He also pursued a solo career and became a sought-after producer, working with Duffy, The Libertines, and Kate Nash.
Known for his melodic and layered guitar sound, Butler blends glam rock, Britpop, and art rock. Though he left Suede decades ago, his influence on 1990s alternative music remains strong. Today, he continues to write, produce, and perform actively.
